According to watchtutorials, the city of Mirny is located 820 km west of Yakutsk. The Mirny settlement was founded in 1955 in connection with the development of a diamond deposit – the Mir kimberlite pipe. It received city status in 1959. Today, Mirny is the center of theRussian diamond industry. The main enterprise of the city, which “feeds” the majority of the local population, and which made Mirny one of the richest cities in Yakutia, is NPO Yakutalmaz, known throughout the world.
The main square of the city is Lenin Square. Here are the main administrative buildings and the House of Culture. On another square – the square of the 30th anniversary of the Victory – a 14-meter obelisk was erected in honor of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. It represents three swords stuck into the ground, behind which stands the Wall of Remembrance with bas-reliefs. In front of the obelisk there is a marble slab with the names of hero cities, under which capsules with earth from these cities are stored. At the square of the 30th anniversary of the Victory stands the Holy Trinity Church. It was opened in 2000. The interior of the cathedral is striking – here you can see many icons and paintings on themes from the Holy Scriptures made of colored and semi-precious stones, which are made in the style of Florentine and Russian mosaics with inlay. In Mirny, it is also worth seeing the monument to the discoverers of Yakut diamonds with a mosaic pano at the base. There is a park around the monument. Be sure to take a walk in the recreation area “Vilyui Ring” and visit the kimberlite museum. Excursions are arranged
from Mirny to the Mir kimberlite pipe. This diamond quarry has a depth of 450 m, an outer diameter of 1200 m and a bottom diameter of 300 m. This diamond deposit was discovered in 1955. A quarter of the world’s diamond mining and production is mined and produced in Yakutia, and the calculated reserves reach 45% of the world’s. In total, more than 100 kimberlite pipes have been discovered in Yakutia. In the vicinity of Mirny they even arrange “diamond tours”, which include visiting jewelry stores, buying diamond products, as well as getting to know the processes of mining and cutting diamonds.
Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk region (Russia)
Magnitogorsk is located on the eastern slope of the Southern Urals on the banks of the Ural River. The city was founded in 1929 during the construction of a metallurgical plant. This is a fairly young industrial city, so there are not so many attractions in it. In Magnitogorsk there is a monument to the “Rear Front” with an eternal flame. The sculpture consists of a worker looking east at the metallurgical plant, and a warrior looking west, where the enemy came from during the Great Patriotic War. The worker and the warrior hold a sword over their heads.
90 km north of Magnitogorsk is the natural landscape museum-reserve Arkaim. This archaeological site was discovered during excavations in the late 1980s. Here they found a primitive settlement with a circular and radial structure of living space, with a clear system of housing and metallurgical production. The territory of the reserve stretches for 350 km from north to south and about the same from west to east. In Arakaim, you can visit museums with collections of ceramics, bone and stone products and metal tools, see a model-reconstruction of a dwelling from the Stone Age, a model-reconstruction of a life-size family tomb of nomads of the 5th-4th centuries BC, a historical park with models of burial structures, as well as the primitive settlement itself.
Magnitogorsk is also known for its ski resorts. The season here runs from November to May.
Ski center Metallurg-Magnitogorsk is located 40 km from Magnitogorsk on the shores of Lake Bannoe. It was opened in 2003. The first high-speed gondola lift in Russia operates here, which delivers tourists to the ski area with 6 slopes. The total length of the tracks is 4.5 km. The height difference within the resort is 450 m. The ski center is developing at a rapid pace – equipment for artificial snowmaking has already been installed here and new routes are being designed. Abzakovo, the most popular health and ski resort, is located 60 km from Magnitogorsk.
. It has ski slopes of all categories, including slalom and giant slalom, artificial snow and night skiing. The tracks are located in the spurs of the ancient Ural Mountains, the maximum height of which in this area is 820 m. Skiers can choose from 13 tracks with a total length of 18 km. The height difference within the resort is 320 m. There are five ski lifts and a double chair lift in Abzakovo. There is an equipment rental and a shop where you can buy everything you need for skiing. In the immediate vicinity of the ski area there are hotels and holiday homes, bars and restaurants.
There are also health centers and sanatoriums on the shores of Lake Bannoe. These institutions specialize in the prevention of diseases of the cardiovascular system, respiratory organs, musculoskeletal system and functional disorders of the nervous system. Treatment is carried out through a variety of procedures – therapeutic baths, showers, baths with sapropel silt mud from Lake Bezymyannoye (located nearby), heat therapy, cold treatment, light and electrotherapy, herbal medicine and inhalations.
